Sedaris Response

I really liked reading this story because it gave me a different perspective of what others lives are like. I never realized how hard it was for people with OCD to go about everyday activities. This brought to my attention of how OCD is not something that can just be turned off whenever the person wants to not have the compulsion. They feel that if they don't do that particular thing that everything else that day is then thrown off. For some reason it impacted me greatly because if opened by eyes to how the life is like of someone who has OCD. I couldn't imagine living a life like that and am very happy that I don't have to. Yes, I do sometimes have the compulsion to do something but if it is not done I am usually not going to lose sleep over it.

Fifth Blog Post

The main question I would like to answer in my research paper is how the number of concussions in sports can be minimized from what it currently is now. Throughout my paper I want to establish what a concussion actually is, why the number has increased so rapidly over the past several years and how we can prevent them from a medical standpoint. During my schooling here at IUP, we have only touched base on concussion research and how it affects athletes not only in professional levels but also in collegiate level and in lower levels of athletics. We have learned how to test for concussion and how as athletic trainers we can see signs of concussions but as far as physical evidence of a concussion, the medical community is still researching that to this day. For my paper, I need to research what a concussion is and how it occurs. To do this I can need to look at the anatomy of the brain and see what actually happens during the impact that causes the injury. I also would like to research how a concussion is considered a concussion. In the past many different classifications have been made to classify concussions. Presently there is not actually set label for the different severity of concussions. The last topic I need to research is how a concussion can be prevented. Some are on accident but most sports related injuries are from direct contact and I believe can be prevented. The first part of my paper I want to talk about is what a concussion actually is and how occurs. I want to find what type of research has already been done about how concussions nowadays are classified. The final portion of my paper is the prevention of concussions, which someday I think could save many athletes from getting injured. Some of the sources I have received information from are from professional journals such as the NATA or the National Athletic Trainers Association. I am also using some of my athletic training books from my classes so far here at IUP. I have several more sources to find but as of now I am in good standing for all of my research.
